The five-star luxury Masseria San Domenico sits just 700 metres from the Adriatic coast amongst centuries old olive groves. The building itself dates back to the 15th century, when it was used by the Knights of Malta as a watch-tower against Saracen attacks.
Little more than 15 years ago, this former agricultural estate, or ‘masseria’, was completely restored, retaining the original building materials and respecting the traditional design of the structure. Masseria San Domenico is now a luxury boutique-style hotel, offering just 47 guest rooms and suites, in an atmosphere that combines intimacy with first-class facilities and service.
The elegant ‘San Domenico’ Restaurant is the premier dining area, with its vaulted ceiling, originally constructed to house the olive press. The restaurant offers typical Puglian cuisine, with an excellent selection of Italian and international wines. For an al fresco lunch, try the ‘Pool Grill’ restaurant, which overlooks the magnificent saltwater swimming pool, and offers a mouth-watering buffet or the newly opened seafood restaurant La nassa, right by the seaside.
The Masseria offers an excellent state-of –the-art Spa and Thalassotherapy centre, which comprises thalassotherapy and treatment rooms, a gym, sauna and steam room. There is also an indoor heated pool for treatments, with aromatic colour showers. The seawater is drawn from deep underground and is purified and heated using the most up-to-date equipment and techniques.
The San Domenico Golf Club is a challenging 18-hole, par 72 course, covering 6,300 yards. It offers a golf academy, driving range, golf carts, trolleys, caddies and equipment hire.
